Northwestern College conducted its 112th Commencement Ceremony at the Arie Crown Theater at McCormick Place in Chicago. This year’s ceremony featured two students who addressed their class, including Vivian Chinwendu Afocha of Chicago’s north side and Xavier E. Carl Poole of Blue Island. Vivian majored in Criminal Justice while Xavier double-majored in Executive Accounting and Business Administration.
Seven Northwestern College students and one graduate traveled to Nashville, Tennessee this spring to attend the 78th National Conference of the American Criminal Justice Association’s Lambda Alpha Epsilon (ACJA/LAE). Both students and faculty of Northwestern College’s Bridgeview Campus competed alongside the other 212 active subordinate chapters (excluding Members-at-Large Chapters) of the ACJA/LAE throughout the United States, but only the college’s faculty advisor and Criminal Justice Program Coordinator Mark Mitchell walked away with awards. Competition among Criminal Justice students from across the nation was fierce, but each Northwestern College student benefited a great deal from the experience, such as a better understanding of the importance of high standards of ethical conduct, professional training, and the continuance of higher education within the criminal justice field.
