Interim Chief Academic Officer
People often ask children what they would like to be when they grow up. For me, it was an easy question to answer. From the time I was in kindergarten, I wanted to be a teacher. My most treasured birthday gift from my parents as a child was a blackboard. I “taught” my dad his ABC’s, numbers, phonetics, how to read, add, subtract, multiply, divide, and all manner of things. He was always a willing, enthusiastic, and excellent “student!”
I realized my life-long aspiration when I became an instructor at Northwestern College over 30 years ago teaching evening classes in accounting and business. After teaching for 10 years, I continued at the College in several administrative positions including Associate Dean of Curriculum, Chief Academic Officer, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Vice President of Accreditation and Compliance, and most currently the interim Chief Academic Officer.
I am passionate about helping NC students achieve their educational goals. As an administrator for the college, ensuring student success means offering quality programs and well-qualified faculty. Through the years, I have played a major role at the College in applying for and maintaining regional accreditation for the institution and specialized accreditations for several programs. Being accredited means that Northwestern College satisfies and maintains a higher benchmark of educational excellence. One of our most recent accomplishments in which I had a leadership role was applying and receiving approval for four Bachelor of Science degrees from the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission.
My dream of being a teacher came true and opened paths in my career that I could not have anticipated. I am honored to have the opportunity to provide our students the same experience of realizing their dreams and having pathways open to career choices.
