What do I need to check out a book?
You need your current Northwestern College Student I.D. card.
How are books arranged on the shelves?
Books are shelved according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. It’s a different way of organizing books by subject. Follow the signs or ask a librarian for help!
How do I look for an article?
The Library subscribes to full-text searchable databases. EBSCOhost, ProQuest and Issues and Controversies databases are available both in the Library and remotely. Remote access passwords are available in the Library or by emailing library staff at [email protected].
How do I know which database to use?
Check for the handout, “Subject Guide to Online Databases,” in the Library and on the Student Hub website.
How long may I keep a book?
Most items are checked out for 3 weeks. Renew your books by phone, email [email protected], or just ask at the front desk if they are not overdue. Overdue fines are .10 per item.
Is the library open on Saturday?
The Library is not open on Saturdays.
Can you help me cite a source?
Use the Library’s APA Style Guide. Check with your instructor if you have any questions about citations in your research.
Does the library have textbooks?
Instructors often place textbooks on the Reserve shelves. Check at the front desk or ask one of the staff members for a textbook. Your Student ID will be required.
Can I print from the computers in the library?
Yes, printing is available from any computer in the Library. All computers have Internet access and Microsoft Office software.
