Northwestern College’s Bridgeview Campus recently hosted 2 ISAC training workshops for financial aid professionals from around the state, both of which were extremely well attended.

Northwestern College’s Bridgeview Campus (7725 S. Harlem Avenue) recently served as the host location for two of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission’s (ISAC) free, one-day workshops: Financial Aid 101 (for new financial aid professionals) and Financial Aid 201 (for more experienced financial aid professionals). Approximately 20 people attended each of the two workshops in Bridgeview, which ISAC holds quarterly throughout the state, and which are frequented by financial aid professionals from all over Illinois. Last week’s workshops were attended by representatives of Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights; Chicago Public Schools; Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Training; Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills; Roosevelt University; DePaul University and Sauk Valley Community College of Dixon, Illinois. Northwestern College has consistently opened up its institution at no cost to ISAC for these and other similar workshops.

According to ISAC Training Director Kim Eck, last week’s workshops included a great turnout, which is common when they are held at Northwestern College’s Bridgeview Campus due to its central location, ease of parking and numerous restaurants. Quick greetings last week from Christa Holton, Northwestern College’s Campus Director as well as Dimitrios Kriaras, the College’s Chief Operations Officer, were also appreciated by the attendees, for both provided some acclimating comments to familiarize the group with the campus as well as the local area.

The Financial Aid 101 workshop was for new financial aid administrators who work with and administer state and federal financial aid programs. The workshop introduced financial aid concepts, processes and programs and was designed to develop a solid career foundation for financial aid professionals to build upon. The Financial Aid 201 workshop was designed for those professionals interested in learning more about the topics of verification, professional judgment and satisfactory academic progress through the utilization of case studies and peer-to-peer discussions. Both workshops were presented by ISAC’s Program Service and Compliance Division and began at 9 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m.

“We are pleased to continue to serve as a resource to ISAC and other higher education professionals of Illinois seeking to provide training,” commented Lawrence Schumacher, President of Northwestern College. “We have continually welcomed the opportunity to open up our facilities to provide ISAC workshops, especially when that training provides a better experience for all of our college students here in Illinois.”
